The noise of a pair of size 12 all black Stacy Adams dress shoes echo through the stairwell like the harmony of a snare drum. These red bottom dress shoes bending and stretching with each forceful step. Running down each step, concentrating on his feet, focused on avoiding to trip over his untied dress shoes. He stops. He starts to panic. His heart begins to pump through his chest as he looks at the time on his big faced black and gold fossil watch. "I might be late" he thinks to himself disappointed and sad. "The elevator was broken". Holding on to the railing and being careful to maintain his balance down each step he finally makes it out the front door. He stops, catches his breath and pulls the string to tighten his book bag on his back and starts to run down the street. He didn't have a car. Public transportation was his only option. But with a successful meeting today his money problems would soon be over. But of course he was running late. It was a beautiful sunny day, barely a cloud in the sky and a calm breeze in the air. Seemed like the start of a great day. He thinks to himself "ahhh, what did I forget". He always forgets something. He just hopes he didn't forget anything of crucial importance that would deter him from his dreams. Although, it didn't really matter. He was already late. He had been waiting 2 years for this opportunity and after all his strategic planning and impulsive moves he was still going to be late. He was scheduled to take his entrance exam that would get him a full ride scholarship to the grad school of his dreams. From there he would have a paid internship with NASA to become an astronaut. Space and the stars always fascinated him. He was enchanted and captivated by the vastness, anonymous, and malevolent forces we have no idea about in space. So eager to learn being a explorer at heart he always had a strong urge to find out what needed to be found out. He always believed with the discovery of aliens, plant life or any intelligent living organism from another planet; racism on earth would be over. He used this way of thinking for a thesis speech for acceptance for consideration for this opportunity he was unfortunately already late to.
"........How could anyone view another human on this planet as inferior or different if the discovery of life on another planet is accessible and obtainable to the world. Given our unique earthly conditions and correct distance from the sun. We as animals, plant life (as we know it) and everything around us is the way that is because of these specific characteristics of our natural environment. If certain things in those characteristics were altered anywhere from the gases in our air to the distance and length of cycles around the host star everything would look and feel different. Our world would be catered towards these specific characteristics changing everything around us. So race inequalities would be insignificant and absurd. These problems should be considered senseless. If not we have bigger, deeper, more important problems......"
The crowd was silent and stunned after his speech. His mom stands alone in the middle of the auditorium and begins what would be a wave of applause that shook the room. She was his biggest fan and to him his most important. Not letting her down and making her proud was all that kept him focused. It kept him driven and hungry. Standing on the sidewalk catching his breath he realizes it doesn't matter what he left behind because he's already too late to go back. Now he comes to the most important decision of the next few hours. Does he take the train or the bus. The bus was less crowded but it was a slower ride filled with numerous stops. The train was always crowded but he could make up time from the speed of the train and less stops. To him the choice was simple. He makes the right on the corner and continues his paced jog to the train. Standing up top the platform he sees a wave of people entering and exiting each train. He carefully reads the signs next to him so that he doesn't get on the wrong train. He was usually always late but at least it wasn't for the same reasons. He never made the same mistake twice. He finds the train number for the red line. "Red line #2788" he quietly chants to himself so that he can remember. He rushes through the crowd as best he can. He finally makes it to the correct platform and he feels the presence of eyes on his left cheek. Still chanting "Red line #2788" he turns to his left and sees a mysterious figure staring at him from a distance. It was a woman but her outline stood out in the crowd. He stares at her to really get a good look. Her shape and profile drew his undivided attention. She was the most beautiful woman in the world staring at him from across the top of the steps. Through his eyes the crowd disappeared and the busy train station went mute. The only thing he could see was this magnificent queens hair blowing in the wind and all he could hear was his heart pounding its way through his chest. His stomach begins to do backflips like it severely required a gold medal.
He can't help but stare in awe as the woman begins to blush as she notices his eyes stuck on her. Her hair swaying pleasantly to the side with each passing train. Her eyes a dark golden brown with intense fire and passion. She was short. But her body was amazing. Slim thick with the right curves that made him drool. Her lips looking so warm and so soft, sat patiently waiting to be kissed. Her cheeks golden brown and glistening with no sunlight around. She slowly winks her left eye at him as she smiles and looks away. He knew in his soul he had to confront her because this opportunity would leave him if he hesitated. He began to walk towards her with his eyes locked in like the sights of a sniper a mile away who's been laying dormant waiting on his perfect opportunity. He steps into the busy crowd and realizes he must fight his way through the commotion. Bumping into and doing his best to avoid as many people as he could he makes it about halfway and stops to find her and judge his distance. To his surprise she was gone he had lost sight of her. He started to speed up towards her last known location avoiding people in the crowd like a hall of fame running back following his blockers on the way to the end zone. He then realizes he has made it to his destination but to his dismay she was gone.
